Cash App Commission Scam – DeviantArt User Shares Story With Disturbing Implications
A digital artist involved came forward with these ugly incidents on a public forum, raising concerns about a possible fake commission scam on the Cash App and gift cards.
Too Good to Be True?
The artist was contacted in the beginning through DeviantArt by someone seriously interested in a $200 art commission. This word quickly moved to Discord, where the buyer asked for the artist’s Cash App and email to send payment.
Suspicious Payment Tactics
Return to the artist and get some money. It is termed “weird emails” in the inbox. Within the spam folder was a suspicious email implying the funds were on hold because the artist doesn’t have a business account. The “buyer” offers $300 more to send back to the sender.
With the artist stating that they could not front that money, the amount has changed to $100, and the scammer is insisting on a gift card or Venmo while rejecting the lesser test amounts.
